Do Not Resuscitate Order in General Hospital

Abstract
Cardiopulmonary cerebral resuscitation (CPCR) may be inappropriate in certain situations, such as in cases of terminal irreversible illness where death is not unexpected or where prolonged cardiac arrest dictates the futility of resuscitation efforts. Cardiopulmonary cerebral resuscitation usually is unsuccessful in such patients; moreover, many patients with chronic or terminal illness do not want the natural course of dying interrupted by CFCR.
Do not resuscitate (DNR) orders are orders not to initiate CPCR. Guidelines recommended that a DNR order may be written if further medical treatment is futile and/or if the competent patient does not want CPCR.
This review article gives briefly description of the clinical and ethical implications of DNR orders.
